MIFFLIN COUNTY, Pa. — A county election official briefed the commissioners on deadlines and procedures for the May 20 municipal election, reminding voters about registration cutoffs and mail-in ballot deadlines.
“On May 20 is our municipal election. Polls open at 7, close at 8 as always,” the official, identified in the transcript only as Paul, told the board. Paul said the last day to register to vote or make changes is Tuesday, May 6, when the election office will be open until 5 p.m. He said registrants must provide either the last four digits of their Social Security number or a driver’s license number on the application so the information can be verified in the state system.
Paul said the last day to request a mail-in ballot in person at the election office is May 13; he reported that the office had already sent out more than 1,700 mail-in ballots at the time of the meeting and processes returned mail-in ballots daily. Voters may use a drop box located inside the courthouse’s first set of doors to return their own ballot without entering security; ballots must arrive at the election office by 8 p.m. on election day for acceptance, and postmarks do not control acceptance.
Paul clarified that staff will not accept or carry another person’s mail-in ballot to the office; only the voter may deliver their ballot. He encouraged early requests for mail-in ballots to allow time for postal delivery and processing.
