Ellis County approves $73,258 purchase of two ZOLL EKG monitors with grant support

The Ellis County Board on May 6 approved a purchase order (PO No. 7918) totaling $73,258.24 to buy two ZOLL X-series EKG monitors for the county's EMS fleet.
Danita Schroeder, Ellis County EMS director, told commissioners the county applied in December to the Kansas CRAF (Kansas Revolving Assistance Fund) through the Kansas Board of EMS and was notified in April that it had been awarded funds. Schroeder said the grant will provide 25% of the cost and that the county has budgeted the remainder in its capital plan. She added the two monitors will replace units at the end of their serviceable life.
Schroeder told the commission that monitors typically remain serviceable for about 10 years and that the department has received similar grants in recent years (four monitors in the first year, two in the next, and two this year). A motion to approve PO No. 7918 passed unanimously, 3-0.
The EMS director said the county intends to continue seeking grant funding as monitors approach end-of-life to stagger replacements and maintain compatibility across the fleet.
