Care of Southeastern Michigan launches Family Solutions program for families affected by opioid use

Erica Bradbury, a certified prevention specialist and program manager at Care of Southeastern Michigan, briefed council about two initiatives: an 11-week Family Solutions program and the Shores Network for Action and Prevention, a community coalition focused on youth substance-free initiatives and mental health supports.

Bradbury said Family Solutions will be a family-centered skill-building class for caregivers of children ages 7 to 17 impacted by a loved one's opioid use or incarceration. The program includes weekly in-person classes at Care of Southeastern Michigan's main office with a meal, an in-home skill-practice coaching component, and case management to connect families to local resources. The program intends to strengthen bonding, set firm boundaries and help parents monitor their children's emotional well-being and exposure to substance use.

Bradbury also described the Shores Network for Action and Prevention, a coalition of parents, school administrators, business owners and other residents that meets the first Thursday of each month from 4 to 5 p.m.; meetings are hybrid via Zoom and in-person at space donated by Senator Hertel at 28800 Harbor Avenue when available. Councilwoman Burgess had invited Care to present to council. Bradbury offered flyers and social-media contacts for residents interested in participating.
