Karen Cooley, speaking during the public‑comment period, reported on the Mitchell Food Pantry’s recent Easter ham‑and‑meal giveaway. Cooley said the pantry planned for 200 meals but received an additional donation of 42 hams and distributed 242 boxes by drive‑through, serving roughly 650 people in 90 cars.
Each box included a ham and a range of locally purchased items the pantry identified: a gallon of milk, potatoes, carrots, apples, onions, canned vegetables, bread/rolls, butter or margarine, a dozen eggs, cookies, soda and a package of pinto beans with a soup recipe. Cooley estimated the local purchase value of the meal ingredients at about $62.39 per box. She thanked volunteers (34 people who donated roughly 100 man‑hours that day), donors and the council for approving use of the lot.
Council members thanked Cooley for the report. No action was required.
