Construction mobilization set to begin at Fountain Hill Elementary; community meetings scheduled

Bethlehem Area SD facilities staff told the district facilities committee on May 19 that construction activity at Fountain Hill Elementary is moving from planning into site mobilization and that community meetings are scheduled this month.
District staff said current students will finish classes on June 2 and asbestos abatement on the site is scheduled to begin June 9. Staff said asbestos removal should be largely complete by early to mid‑July, after which earthmoving and site work will begin and the deconstruction of the existing building will start toward the end of summer.
The district has held a preconstruction meeting with the contractor teams and is processing a large number of submittals for building components, staff said. They told the committee the district is working with a shoring contractor on a retaining wall and may return to the board soon with a final layout and an approval request if the recommended option differs from earlier plans.
District staff also announced two public events: a “meet the construction team” session at Fountain Hill on Tuesday, May 20 at 6 p.m., and a groundbreaking scheduled for Thursday, May 22 at 4 p.m. Staff said hard hats will be available for the groundbreaking and that the district plans photo updates and occasional site visits for board members.
Committee members asked for a timeline of on‑site work and were told that after abatement the district expects to see equipment on site in July to begin grading and excavation. Staff said fencing and limited visible mobilization may appear once abatement begins.
The update was provided as an informational item; no formal board action or vote was taken during the committee meeting.
