Marion County proclaims May 11–17, 2025, National Police Week and commissioners praise deputies' community service

Jason Bernards, enforcement division commander for the Marion County Sheriff's Office, asked the board to proclaim May 11–17, 2025 as National Police Week in Marion County and described the work and sacrifices of deputies and their families. "Every single person in uniform that you see that works for the Marion County Sheriff's Office is a leader in their community," Bernards said, praising volunteers and off-duty community involvement.
Commissioners thanked deputies and the sheriff's office for service during fires, COVID and other emergencies and highlighted cooperative work with other agencies. Board members and audience speakers praised deputies' community roles, with several commissioners recounting ride-along experiences and informal stories of deputies' service to the public.
The board approved the proclamation by voice vote. Following the vote, members of the sheriff's office and community joined the commissioners for a group photo.
The proclamation recognizes the duties, hazards and public service of law enforcement personnel in Marion County and reiterates the county's appreciation for the sheriff's office enforcement division.
