Power operations report: pole installs, generator repairs and Old Highway 91 transformer work near completion

Utility operations staff gave the Power Board a status report on ongoing construction and maintenance.

Poles and foundations: Staff said crews have set seven of 11 poles on 2800 West and are waiting for engineering on self-supporting pole foundations and a drill rig to install drilled foundations; staff estimated the remaining work will resume around September. One hole in volcanic rock remains difficult and may require the driller’s rig to finish.

Generator and substation work: Staff reported repairs on multiple generators—battery replacements, regulator adjustments and a throttle repair on generator 6—and said two generators that previously would not start have been repaired. Substation work at Anticline includes transformer replacement and regulator installation; staff expected control wiring and relay testing to be completed in the following week.

Old Highway 91 load: Staff described a recent project to install a new switch and feed two large distribution transformers to serve a new manufacturing/warehouse facility (referred to in the meeting as the “balance of nature” building). The new transformers are among the largest on the system and staff said they are monitoring circuit capacity as other nearby developments shift load into the corridor.

Staff said planned 69 kV to 138 kV conversions and future line-builds in the capital plan are intended to address concentrated new loads in the valley and to add redundancy so that a single transmission outage would not leave the municipality without primary feed.
