Board approves consent agenda and three OSBA resolutions; one abstention on an OSBA bylaw amendment

The Central School District 13J Board approved the consent agenda and three OSBA items at its Dec. 2 meeting.

Consent agenda: Board member Dawn moved to approve the consent agenda; Susan seconded. The board voted unanimously, 6-0, to approve the consent agenda.

OSBA Resolution 1 (dues schedule amendment): The board moved, seconded and voted 6-0 to support an amendment to the OSBA dues schedule that phases in higher dues over five years. Staff provided the board with the proposed district dues amounts for the coming years; for the district’s size the document showed an amount of $5,952.75 for the current year and stepped increases in subsequent years under the amendment.

OSBA Resolution 2 (board composition/bylaw change): The board moved and seconded adoption of a change to OSBA bylaws to designate a member caucus representative as a voting member of the OSBA board of directors and legislative policy committee. The district’s board voted to adopt Resolution 2; the roll-call showed five in favor and one abstention. The abstention was recorded during the vote; no against votes were recorded and the resolution passed.

OSBA Resolution 3 (bylaws update/housekeeping): The board moved and seconded adoption of OSBA Resolution 3, an update and cleanup of OSBA bylaws and related language. The district voted 6-0 in favor.

Board members noted the value OSBA provides in policy support and training for school boards during difficult budget sessions. Staff said casting the district’s votes on OSBA resolutions will be handled through the organization’s online process following the meeting.
