Sabra Jewell, identified as the foundation’s second vice president, said the foundation reviewed 20 applications — many of them collaborative proposals involving multiple teachers — and awarded grants to projects the foundation’s volunteers judged to demonstrate promising practices and outreach. Jewell said the foundation estimates the projects will touch about 6,000 students districtwide.
“Every year, this is just an absolute joy,” Jewell told the board. “This year was no exception.”
Jewell and Abby Fitz, introduced as a foundation colleague, presented a ceremonial check and posed for photos with teachers and staff who had submitted grant proposals.
Superintendent Kubista thanked the foundation and district staff who applied for classroom-enrichment awards. Board members and district staff noted the grants fund a range of activities, including additional classroom materials, behavior specialists and career-and-college readiness supports.
The presentation did not require board action; it was listed on the agenda as a recognition and was recorded as part of the meeting minutes.
