Central SD 13J board approves $1.055 million transfer to complete CHS turf and track project

The Central School District 13J Board of Directors approved a supplemental budget transfer of $1,055,000 on Dec. 2 to complete the Central High School turf and track project and to provide authority for emergency capital needs.

Staff presented the item during a public budget hearing. Cease Kuntz, a district staff member who presented the request, told the board the transfer would move contingency funds in the Capital Projects Fund (Fund 402) into support services and capital-improvement categories so the district can spend on the turf and track project and respond if other capital needs arise.

The transfer was described by staff as a supplemental budget request that required a public hearing because of its size relative to the fund’s original appropriation. Board members asked clarifying questions about whether the action increased the district’s total budget or tax levy; staff and trustees confirmed the move reallocates previously approved funds and does not change the district’s overall tax levy.

Board member Steve moved to adopt the supplemental budget. Don seconded. The board voted 6-0 to approve the transfer. The motion’s text as read into the record specified transferring $1,055,000 from the contingency line in Fund 402 and appropriating amounts into support services and capital improvements to complete the CHS turf and track project and to allow for emergency capital needs that arise.

The board signed the resolution at the meeting and placed the supplemental budget on the district’s administrative record.

Board materials indicate the transfer is intended to make contingency funds available for the turf and track work while preserving flexibility for other capital needs that come up later in the fiscal year.

Minutes showed no public comments were made during the hearing and no amendments to the motion were proposed before the vote.
