Council accepts APA technical-assistance corridor study for Highway 123/Main Street area

The Westminster City Council accepted a technical-assistance report from the South Carolina chapter of the American Planning Association on May 13. The study focused on the Highway 123 / East Main Street corridor from the downtown signage area to the Ingalls intersection.
Staff and the planning commission worked with the APA volunteer team for about a year; the report includes policy suggestions, streetscape concepts and suggestions for partnerships to guide future streetscape and transportation grant applications. Staff emphasized that acceptance does not obligate the city to fund projects, but provides a planning basis to support grant applications such as a forthcoming ACOG transportation study.
The planning commission and staff recommended adoption; council voted to accept the report. Staff said future grant applications and DOT coordination would reference the APA recommendations.
