Local offices and nonprofits outline Blue Envelope disability program, food distribution and expanding senior services

Multiple presenters used the HOPE Team meeting to brief attendees on local programs aimed at improving crisis response, food access and senior services.

Amanda from the Marion County Prosecutor's office described the office nd partners' "Blue Envelope" program, which provides a free envelope kit residents can store in their vehicles with identification, emergency contacts and information about cognitive or intellectual disabilities. Amanda said more than 300 envelopes had been mailed and that the kit is available to any Indiana resident; she said the envelope helps law enforcement recognize that a person may need an alternate response approach during traffic stops or other interactions.

Tequila Tinker, city food coordinator in the Office of Public Health and Safety, described ongoing food distribution efforts and a calendar model for community food events. She said fresh produce drops will occur on the first and third Tuesday of each month and that she coordinates deliveries and can support community events when given advance notice. Tinker provided an email contact (ttinker@indy.gov) for scheduling and asked neighborhood groups to sign up early so logistics can be arranged.

Orlando (Brothers Community Church) said the church is expanding its senior program from a single monthly grocery day to a four-day-a-week "senior week" beginning in July, offering daily activities, resource days and transportation assistance planning.
