IndyGo reports rising Purple Line ridership, to run summer safety study and present major policy proposal

Jordan Patterson, special programs manager at IndyGo (IndyGo/Indigo in speaker references), briefed the HOPE Team on ridership trends, a safety data project and a forthcoming policy proposal for the transit agency's board.
Patterson said the Purple Line, launched in October 2024, recorded a little over 50,000 rides in its first month and has since more than doubled that number. "The Purple Line is now IndyGo's most ridden and most popular route," he said, urging neighborhood partners to note the service's higher-than-expected adoption.
Patterson said IndyGo has received a U.S. Department of Transportation grant to conduct a near-miss analysis this summer. The study will pair 24-hour video data from 32 of the region's most dangerous intersections with rider safety surveys to better understand pedestrian, cyclist and motorist interactions at bus stops and transfer points.
He also announced a major policy proposal that IndyGo will present to its board on May 15 at 4 p.m. at the agency's East Campus; he asked community members to follow agency communications and contact him at jpatterson@indigo.net (as provided in the meeting) to be included in outreach and receive monthly partner updates.
