Committee approves $37,328.92 purchase of Polaris Ranger UTV for trail work

The Forestry Recreation Committee approved purchase of a Polaris Ranger side-by-side UTV from Duluth Lawn and Sport for $37,328.92, the lowest responsive bid. Staff said the vehicle purchase was included in last year’s capital plan with an authorization of up to $45,000.
Staff described the vehicle as a cab-equipped Ranger with a track system included in the bid for winter use, and removable tires for summer trail work. The vehicle will be used for trail inspections, carrying tools and signs, and other routine maintenance tasks on the county forest. Staff said two other four-wheelers remain in the fleet but that the Ranger provides more capacity for crew transport and equipment.
The committee voted in favor by roll call. Staff said the purchase will be processed using the approved capital line item.
