Superintendent introduces five‑year strategic plan focusing on instruction, attendance and talent

Superintendent Geis introduced a five‑year strategic plan the district developed over the past year with a state‑supported partner, Attuned Education, and a steering committee that included district staff and communications personnel.

Geis said the project began more than a year ago after discussions with the Louisiana Department of Education and that the district secured funding to support the effort. The planning process, he said, involved four phases: laying the foundation, data analysis, instructional quality review (including classroom observations by outside reviewers), and a constituent‑perspective phase with surveys and interviews. He said roughly 2,500 surveys and interviews were completed with central-office staff, principals, teachers, students and families.

The plan identifies three priorities: 1) rigorous instruction, defined not as simply “more work” but as higher expectations and instructional challenge; 2) support for engaged students, including efforts to improve attendance and related supports; and 3) growing and improving district talent through hiring, training and “growing your own” initiatives to recruit staff from within the community. Geis credited Adam Hunsucker of communications and the steering committee for coordinating the work with Attuned Education and said the district will roll out plan details in the coming weeks and months.

Board members were invited to ask questions; Geis said the leadership team will continue working through implementation steps and that periodic updates will be provided to the board.
