Lubbock Live asks county for $15,000 to underwrite Arts Festival; says proceeds will help LYO

Jay Quintanilla, marketing chair for Lubbock Live Festival for the Arts, presented the nonprofit’s request that Lubbock County provide $15,000 to help underwrite the festival scheduled for Aug. 23, 2025. Quintanilla said the festival has operated since 2021, has donated more than $30,000 to local arts organizations over four years, and paid local artists more than $45,000 during that period. He said the festival typically draws around 400 attendees (they hope to exceed 500 this year) and supports roughly 30 performing acts and about 20 vendor businesses.
Quintanilla said requested county funds would cover festival expenses such as security, sound and venue rental; in return, the county would be title sponsor of one stage with logo placement on banners, T-shirts and the event website. Ticket prices were described as $25 at the door, $20 presale. Quintanilla said proceeds and some on-site donations will go to the Lubbock Youth Orchestras, the festival’s listed beneficiary this year. Commissioners did not vote on the request at the meeting; the judge said the court will consider the grant at a future meeting.
