Committee approves electronic alarm permits, removes decal replacement fee

The TIE Committee on May 8 voted unanimously to recommend CB-39, a bill that permits electronic alarm-user permits in Prince George's County and removes the replacement decal fee for burglar/alarm permits.
Committee staff said the bill was transmitted from the administration and is intended to modernize permit registration. Revenue Authority representatives said the authority has implemented a front-facing portal that assigns permit numbers to registered accounts, removing the need for decals in windows. "This is how we would recognize their accounts... previously, they were receiving these final decals that needed to be stickers placed in the windows... and we saw that there was not a need for them," said the Revenue Authority deputy director. The authority described the change as a cost-saving measure for residents.
Miss Skinner, on behalf of the administration, requested the committee’s favorable recommendation. The roll call for a favorable motion recorded Chair Olsen, Council Member DeNogue, Council Member Begay and Vice Chair Harrison voting aye; the motion carried 4–0. The committee did not record further amendments at the May 8 hearing.
The change would move permit recognition to an electronic account/numbering system managed by the Revenue Authority; the committee did not discuss implementation dates or detailed transition timelines at the meeting.
