Rules committee sets May 13 for omnibus tax bill and statue resolution, requires pre-filing for amendments

The Committee on Rules and Legislative Administration adopted minutes and set a calendar Tuesday that places House File 2437, an omnibus tax bill, and House File 475, a memorial resolution to replace the Henry Mauer Rice statue, for consideration on May 13 and established a pre-filing requirement for amendments to those measures under rules 1.21 and 3.33.

The committee first approved minutes from its May 8 meeting after Representative Frederick moved to adopt them and Representative Jordan seconded. Representative Frederick said, "So moved, mister chair. Representative Frederick moves the minutes from May 8." Representative Jordan replied, "Mister Sherr, thank you. I have also reviewed the minutes and I would, second." The chair called for the ayes and the minutes were adopted by voice vote.

After adopting the minutes, the committee moved to the calendar. A committee member announced the proposed calendar and listed the two items to be placed on the calendar for Tuesday, May 13: House File 2437 (omnibus tax bill) and House File 475 (memorial resolution to replace the Henry Mauer Rice statue). The committee "designate[d] Tuesday, May 13 for the adoption of the calendar for the day and establish[ed] a pre filing requirement for amendments offered to those bills," citing rules 1.21 and 3.33. The calendar was adopted by voice vote; the transcript records members saying "Aye" and then "Opposed? The calendar for the day is adopted. Members, that's our business, and we are adjourned." The transcript does not record a roll-call tally.

The committee did not debate the substance of either bill during the recorded portion of this meeting; the action was procedural — setting the floor calendar and restricting when amendments may be filed for those two files.

The committee adjourned following adoption of the calendar.
