Parents complain to West Oso ISD board about junior-high dance program organization and missing items

Two parents spoke during public participation at the West Oso ISD meeting to complain about organization and charges related to the junior high dance team.

Anastasia Fillmore said she paid $1,059 ‘‘to the dance coach, to her personal account’’ and that items promised to her daughter were either not delivered or were the wrong sizes. Fillmore said her daughter received dance boots that were too small and that she did not receive some practice tops and a ‘‘pink out’’ uniform the family expected. Fillmore said she accepted a smaller pair of boots after attempts to correct the order did not resolve the problem and said she and other parents would prefer a different coach because of what they described as persistent disorganization.

Community member Doris Fillmore spoke on behalf of a staff member who was not present and asked the board to ensure administrators and the staff member “both” explain their views. The board chair cautioned that personnel and certain student-family matters are confidential and said personal personnel information cannot be released without the affected person’s permission, citing privacy rules discussed during the meeting.

Why it matters: The speakers asked the board to review program administration and to help resolve refunds or missing items. The board did not take action in public session on personnel matters and advised parents to use district complaint or personnel-review procedures.
