Open-space consultants present early natural-resources inventory; EDAB asked to be briefed on progress

Consultants working on a phase-1 natural-resources inventory presented preliminary work to the open-space committee and neighboring advisory boards, EDAB members were told.
Kristen (committee member) said the consultants are aggregating data from many public sources to create a usable, updateable product for both town departments and the public. “Rather than going to like 20 different places to get the type of natural resources data that would be helpful to see, it pulls it all together in very… there’ll be a series of viewable maps and other things that come along with it that will be available for the public,” Kristen said.
Board members noted the inventory will have internal functions for planning and engineering staff while also providing public-facing mapping features; some sensitive information (for example, locations of endangered species) will be withheld from public displays when appropriate. The project is part of a one-year contract with consultants; committee members said they will seek to schedule a cross-board progress update that includes EDAB, parks and planning representatives so each advisory board can offer input.
Kristen also reported progress on multiple LWRP-triggered projects near the waterfront, citing proposals for enhanced accessibility ramps, an inclusive playground and improvements to a large parking area near the state park. The board said public outreach will include in-person events and digital surveys, with possible iPad-based intercept surveys at community events and school functions to reach younger families.
EDAB members asked to be notified when a joint progress meeting with consultants and other advisory boards is scheduled.
