Board recognizes new principals for Washington and Orange Wood elementary schools

At the May 8 meeting the Washington Elementary School District Governing Board formally introduced two newly assigned principals for the 2025–26 school year.
Andrea Maroney was introduced as the next principal of Washington Elementary. In her remarks, Maroney said she earned a master’s degree in special education from Arizona State University, joined the district in February 2016 and has served as an instructional coach and assistant principal at Maryland Elementary. She told the board she prioritizes relationship building with students, families, staff and community partners and said she looked forward to partnering with the community and the neighboring Innovation27 project.
Emily Patterson was introduced as the new principal of Orange Wood Elementary. The board noted she earned a master's degree in educational leadership from Northern Arizona University, joined the district in February 2009, and served as assistant principal at Orange Wood since February 2019. Presenters credited Patterson with contributing to Orange Wood's improvement from a district‑designated school label to two consecutive years earning higher ratings.
Both principals offered brief personal remarks thanking mentors and family and expressing commitment to students and staff in their new roles. Their introductions were made with the board's prior approval, and each principal spoke directly to the audience and board.
