Carson City Library reports staffing hires, programs, and strategic-plan steps

Joy said an internal candidate, Jaylyn Quibble, has accepted a tentative offer for a senior library assistant position and that one senior library assistant slot and two library assistant positions remain open. The workforce development and social services coordinator position has drawn many applicants and first-round interviews are anticipated the following week.
On programs, the director listed an upcoming author talk with mystery writer Mark Bacon, a Mother's Day make-and-take craft program, resumed visits from Tuffy the comfort dog (with volunteer Frank Moynihan), monthly Community Chest Family Connection sessions offering family-support resources, and planned Medicare and Social Security information seminars. Joy said Carson City Reads distributed about 92% of the 2025 selection copies and that leftover copies would be used in summer-reading materials.
Joy reported the library's involvement with GOED career-mapping work associated with a Sandy Grant that began in 2021 and noted publicity and interviews related to that partnership. She said the strategic-plan contract required a date correction in the scope of work; she expected to contact Dr. Seidman directly to move community meetings and surveys forward once scheduling issues are resolved.
She also said the Friends of the Carson City Library funding requests will be completed and sent the next day and that she will present to the Friends on May 19 to request continued support for digital collections, summer reading, community programming and lease payments.
