Board hears updates on administrative hiring, aims to bring candidates to upcoming meetings

At the May 7, 2025, Milan Area Schools Board of Education meeting district staff updated the board on multiple administrative hiring processes and the timeline for bringing candidates forward.
Assistant Superintendent McMahon told the board the Paddock principal search is narrowed to two finalists after screening and two formal interview rounds; the district plans additional meetings next week with the goal of presenting a candidate for board consideration at or before the May 20 meeting. McMahon said the assistant superintendent position has closed, applicants are being vetted, and first-round interviews are being scheduled with a view toward a candidate recommendation before the June 4 meeting.
Board members and staff described a multi-stage hiring process that includes screening, at least two formal interview rounds, and a subsequent informal “walking interview” or tour before final recommendation. McMahon credited staff and committee members for their time on screening and interview work and said the process is intended to include meaningful input from teachers and building staff.
Separately, the board approved Christopher West as Milan High School science teacher for the 2025–26 school year during the meeting; that personnel action is recorded in the board’s roll-call votes.
District staff also noted that a class composite art project is nearly finished and available for board members to view after the meeting.
