The Somerville Finance Committee on May 6 recommended multiple Community Preservation Act (CPA) transfers and appropriations to support open space improvements and to correct a prior affordable housing transfer.
The mayor requested (item 25-0398) a transfer of $55,631 from the CPA undesignated fund balance to the CPA open space reserve. Those funds, together with a $100,000 request from the open space reserve (item 25-0399), will fund additional costs to complete improvements to the Dillboy Auxiliary Fields. Director Alan Inacio said the $100,000 request is a late change order to finish the project and that staff continue to aim for a fall completion; the $55,631 transfer provides part of the $100,000 appropriation needed.
Separately, the mayor requested appropriation of $300,000 from CPA to the CPA open space land acquisition fund (item 25-0652). Director Inacio said the accumulated balance in the open space acquisition fund is approximately $800,000 after this appropriation.
The committee also recommended approval of an updated appropriation of $1,468,693 from the CPA affordable housing reserve to the Affordable Housing Trust (item 25-0651) to correct a clerical error from a prior vote; staff said the clerk confirmed the correction mechanism.
Committee members asked about an abstention noted in the CPA board vote on Dillboy; staff committed to obtaining CPA meeting minutes and providing the rationale for the abstention.
All CPA-related items were laid on the table to recommend approval to the full council.
