The Jackson Public School Board on May 6 approved a two-year employment contract for Superintendent Eric Green that runs from July 1, 2025, through June 30, 2027.
The board cited Green’s record of district performance and retained his stated annual salary of $262,000 and an auto allowance of $1,500, producing a total stated compensation package of $280,000 per year. The contract increases the number of professional travel days Green may use from 15 to 20 and changes the board reporting process for travel to monthly post-travel disclosure rather than prior-approval requirements in earlier contracts.
Board attorney Dorian Turner presented the contract and described it as largely consistent with Green’s prior agreements while noting two substantive updates added the afternoon before the meeting: removal of a prior-approval requirement for professional travel and monthly reporting of travel expenditures, and increasing allowable professional travel days from 15 to 20. Turner also said fringe benefits, vacation and holiday entitlements will align with what other district employees receive.
Board members discussed the length of the contract during the meeting. Board President (as referenced in meeting materials) and others said a two-year term places evaluation points at the strategic-plan midpoint and allows the board to assess progress and compensation relative to peer districts. Supporters noted Green-led district changes such as expanded pre-K access, improved algebra pass rates and a rising graduation rate.
Miss Hilliard moved to approve the contract and Dr. Harrison seconded. The board voted in favor by voice; no roll-call dissent was recorded in the public transcript and the motion carried.
Green thanked the board and said he was proud of the district’s progress and pleased to continue leading the district.
Discussion-only context: the contract language changes were described as aligning written terms with long-standing practice: Turner said pre-approval language had been in prior contracts but not followed in practice, and the new language formalizes reporting instead of prior approvals. The board emphasized regional compensation benchmarking when setting the salary.
Ending note: The contract takes effect July 1, 2025. The board recorded the motion and approved it during the meeting; monthly travel reports from the superintendent will be added to the board’s routine disclosures.
