Separately, Dan Falconer, associate planner, told commissioners he has been approached by local sign companies and plans to present an informational item at the next Planning Commission meeting on how Minot’s sign code operates, comparisons to neighboring jurisdictions, and potential alternatives. Falconer said the topic will include both freestanding (billboard-style) signs and building-mounted signage and that staff will provide background and options rather than a formal text amendment at this stage.
Commissioners asked that staff include a brief history of recent sign-code changes and the previous subcommittee work on signage when Falconer presents the informational item.
Next steps: the Planning Commission’s August meeting will be held on Wednesday, Aug. 6, 2025, at 5:30 p.m. in City Hall; staff will present the sign-code informational item at an upcoming meeting.
