Board advances second reading of state‑approved instructional materials and recommends local board‑approved courses for 2025–26

The academic and innovation division presented two related items to the committee: a second committee reading of textbooks selected from the South Carolina Department of Education’s approved list and the proposed local board‑approved courses for the 2025–26 school year.
Administration explained that the local adoption process followed State Board Regulation 43‑1‑70 and that committees of classroom teachers, school administrators and instructional coaches reviewed state-approved materials for alignment to the South Carolina College and Career Readiness Standards. The materials proposed for second committee reading included science and a comprehensive list of math titles (K–12, accelerated middle, algebra, geometry, statistics, AP calculus and AP statistics among others).
Separately, administration presented the district’s proposed local board‑approved courses for fall 2025. The only new local courses for 2025–26 are Leadership Development Levels 3 and 4 and the Future Ready course was described as a local board‑approved offering to support seniors exploring career pathways, community college partnerships and work‑based experiences prior to graduation.
Committee approved the second reading to forward textbook adoptions to the full board for the May full meeting and approved the local courses recommendation in committee (2–0). Final adoption of instructional materials will be on the full board agenda at the next meeting for approval.
