Del City City Council on May 5 approved a temporary moratorium on new off‑premise billboards, advanced several planning-and-zoning amendments and renewed the police department’s body‑worn camera agreement. Separately, the Del City Municipal Services Authority (DCMSA) voted to deny a proposed memorandum of understanding for a wastewater monitoring program.
Moratorium on billboards
The council adopted Ordinance No. 1440 to establish a temporary moratorium on the acceptance, processing and approval of applications for new billboards under the city’s planning and zoning appendix. The council first voted to approve the ordinance without the emergency clause, then separately voted to declare an emergency allowing immediate enforcement. The measures passed unanimously.
Sign-code rewrite tabled
The council voted to table Ordinance No. 1441 (a comprehensive repeal-and-replace of Chapter 18, signs) until the May 19 meeting to allow additional review and edits, including concerns raised about graffiti exclusions and the threshold size for shopping centers referenced in the draft.
Zoning and land-use amendments
The council adopted Ordinance No. 1442 to amend planning and zoning provisions related to bail bondsmen and bail services, and Ordinance No. 1443 to add site-design requirements and related definitions. In both cases the council approved the ordinances and separately voted to declare emergencies so the changes take effect immediately; both motions carried by voice vote with all council members recorded as aye.
DCMSA: wastewater-monitoring MOU denied
At the Del City Municipal Services Authority meeting held as part of the agenda, trustees considered a memorandum of understanding with CEC Analytics Limited for a wastewater monitoring program for “substances of potential abuse.” A motion to deny entering into the MOU passed; Trustee Tatum and the chair voted aye and the item was denied.
Police body cameras
The council approved a renewal agreement with Axon Enterprises Inc. to provide 40 body‑worn cameras and related licenses at a not‑to‑exceed cost of $59,376.96 and continued support through March 2026. Police Chief Berger told the council the cameras have been “worth their weight in gold” for evidence and internal review; the contract passed unanimously.
