Construction starts on Wedge Preserve Park; city updates several park renovation projects

The City of Parkland’s Parks and Recreation Advisory Board received an update that construction work has begun at Wedge Preserve Park after the city issued a notice to proceed.
Staff said the GMP amendment for Wedge Preserve Park was approved and executed and that clearing and initial site work had begun. The project scope includes a ninja course and tower, a splash pad, hard covers over pickleball courts, and a “mini play village.” Staff estimated a roughly 19‑month construction schedule before the park opens to the public.
Staff also provided status updates on other park projects. Covered Bridge Park will replace decaying natural‑wood elements with wood‑look components; design has been finalized and staff expect to request commission approval next month. Terramar Park is planned to receive about 65 additional parking spaces north of multipurpose Field C; 60% construction documents have been received and comments returned to the design team.
Liberty Park restroom remodels are underway and expected to be complete before summer. The volcano slide surfacing at Liberty Park will be replaced with an artificial turf‑type surface to address adhesion and durability problems. City Hall roofing panels are being installed and expected to finish in about a month. Pine Trails Park has had immediate replacement parts installed for play‑structure components; staff said additional platform decks and play panels will be replaced as part of routine component renewal, not a full structure overhaul.
Staff said they will finalize the Tamar Park back playground design and bring the project to the commission for approval in July and that painting and bench/picnic table replacements will proceed through the summer. Staff will notify the board about a possible June groundbreaking for Wedge Preserve Park once a date is set.
Board members asked for updates to be provided by email and for a potential groundbreaking ceremony invitation once scheduling is firm. Staff said they will place that date on the board members’ calendars when confirmed.
