The Government Operations Committee on May 5 approved forwarding to City Council an order to establish a dedicated fund for Mansfield Stadium to collect concession receipts, gate revenues and donations for exclusive use on stadium maintenance and improvements.
Parks staff explained that the facility's prior management agreement with Westside Little League (formerly Westside Little League; now reorganized under Bangor Little League) has ended and the city is transitioning full operation and management of Mansfield Stadium. Staff said proceeds that previously were held by the league will be directed into a city-managed dedicated account to fund maintenance, equipment and capital needs at the stadium.
"One of the pieces of the transition is to...establish a dedicated fund for Mansfield Stadium and those proceeds to be used exclusively for that," the Parks director said. Committee members asked who would administer the fund; staff said oversight would be provided by the Parks & Recreation director and the finance director. A councilor asked whether the Little League would retain any decision-making role; staff replied they would not — the league's management agreement has ended and the city would assume oversight.
The committee moved and seconded the order to create the dedicated Mansfield Stadium fund and voted to forward it to the City Council for placement on the next meeting's agenda.
