Woodford County Fiscal Court approved an agreement for on‑call engineering services with HMB Engineering, a regional firm headquartered in Frankfort, to provide design and emergency infrastructure assistance on an as‑needed basis.
Chris Stewart, vice president at HMB, described the firm’s experience in public infrastructure—roads, bridges, drinking water, sanitary sewer and stormwater—and said HMB maintains similar on‑call arrangements with nearly 50 local government clients in Kentucky, Indiana and Tennessee. The arrangement requires no monthly retainer and is non‑exclusive; hourly rates apply for small tasks and a separate task order can set a lump-sum scope and schedule for larger projects.
Judge Executive Kane said the contract followed an existing working relationship on the Paints Depot (or Pains Depot) bridge project and was presented so the county would have engineering resources available for flood response and other needs. The court voted to approve the agreement by voice vote; no magistrates opposed.
What’s next: County staff may request HMB services via task order or hourly work as needs arise; the contract will allow staff to engage engineering services quickly for design, emergency response or larger defined projects requiring a separate task order.
