Committees forward proclamations: National Public Works Week, Bike Month and AAPI Heritage Month

Lancaster City committees on May 5 moved several recognition resolutions to the full council for proclamation.
The Public Works Committee forwarded a resolution recognizing National Public Works Week, May 18–24. Director Campbell described the national theme, "people, purpose, and presence," and highlighted department work in water, wastewater, stormwater, capital construction and sustainability. Campbell said the department has public-service announcement videos on the city DPW website and noted a staff appreciation event: "We have arranged for the staff of DPW for a baseball game, at Clipper Stadium on Sunday the eighteenth." Committee members praised public-works employees and moved the resolution to the May 13 full council meeting.
Separately, the committee of the whole forwarded a resolution recognizing National Bike Month and another recognizing Asian American, Native Hawaiian and Pacific Islander Heritage Month. Councillor Hirsch highlighted city bike-month events and directed listeners to bikeitlancaster.com for a calendar. A public commenter reported repeated incidents of commercial and utility vehicles parking in designated bike lanes, creating safety risks; the commenter asked for enforcement. Councilors responded that residents can call the police non-emergency line to request ticketing for lane obstructions and expressed support for the bike-lane program as it matures.
All three recognition items were approved by committee voice vote for placement on the next full-council agenda.
