Mountain View administrator reports staffing gains, activities and pending laundry project

The Mountain View Community administrator updated the Carroll County Commission on staffing, occupancy and upcoming projects at the county-run nursing home during the May 5 meeting.
The administrator reported occupancy near 97 percent, three discharges in the previous week, and recent hires that included one registered nurse and three licensed nursing assistants (LNAs). The facility also reported six staff members currently in orientation. The administrator said a retention committee meets monthly and an agency-reduction committee meets weekly to address staffing needs.
Sheila Gunn was announced as promoted to deputy director of human resources to allow focused recruiting work, the administrator said. The facility is increasing recruitment activity on platforms including ZipRecruiter, Facebook, Indeed and LinkedIn and is working to bring clinical rotations from Kingswood to Mountain View to strengthen clinical staffing pipelines.
On capital projects, the administrator said the laundry project is in motion: the county has a contract with EGA and a civil engineering firm has been engaged; bid openings for laundry work are expected in the coming weeks. The administrator said the county is “a couple weeks away” from further procurement steps.
Mountain View staff also outlined upcoming events, including activities for Nursing Home Week, a Mother’s Day lunch and a Chamber of Commerce expo to be held at the facility later in the month.
Commissioners asked for copies of the facility staffing and agency report; staff indicated the report will be included in materials provided to the delegation and made available on request.
