Board approves two contractor agreements for student and staff mental-health supports funded by grant

The Caswell County Board of Education approved two contractor agreements to expand mental-health supports for students and staff, financed in part by a grant the district awarded itself earlier this school year.
Dr. Jones, presenting the item, told the board the district secured a grant totaling $225,000 that must be spent by June 30. She said $75,000 of the grant was allotted specifically to student crisis services and explained the contracts answer to that portion of the award.
The first contract, with Avery Robinson Training Consultant, is a three-year services agreement that includes a library of mental-health modules for teachers, parents and administrators. The presenter said teachers can earn continuing education units (CEUs) for completing modules and that the contractor will update materials to reflect legislative changes and provide in-person or virtual student services.
The second contract, with CCH Consulting led by Dr. Wyatt, focuses on grief counseling and layered sessions for students; the presenter said parents must sign referral forms before students are connected to services. The board also asked whether the services could be made available to staff; presenters confirmed staff support can be provided and that an additional pot of grant funds was available to spend by June 30.
Board action: The board voted to approve the contract(s). Multiple board members moved and seconded approval motions for the two contracts; both motions carried by voice/hand vote.
