Caswell County Board approves AIG plan for 2025–28 after staff presentation

The Caswell County Board of Education on a May 2025 meeting approved the district's Academically or Intellectually Gifted (AIG) plan for the 2025''2028 cycle after staff said the plan must be uploaded to the State Department of Public Instruction.

Staff said the submission includes six components the state requires and that much of the material on the uploaded form is repetitive because of how the state asks questions. A staff member told the board, "You will see that you have the ATSI annual report. This is the fifth of six components that we are required to submit by DPI." The presentation noted the plan aligns with the district's strategic plan and that current AIG goals are implemented and ongoing.

Board members asked for additional detail to evaluate equity across schools. One board member asked for "the number of students by school, by...race and gender in the program" so the board could match counts with district percentages. Staff said they could provide that breakdown on request.

Motion and vote: A board member moved to approve the AIG plan for 2025''2028 and "Mister Smith" seconded; the motion passed by voice/hand vote.

Why it matters: The AIG plan determines how Caswell County Schools identifies and serves gifted students and is submitted to the North Carolina Department of Public Instruction (DPI) as part of state compliance and accountability processes.

What's next: Staff will provide the requested school-level demographic breakdowns to the board for review and will file the uploaded AIG plan with the state as required.
