Porterville charter committee sets June 19 meeting at 5:30 p.m.; adopts alternating‑alternates procedure

Committee members set a recurring meeting schedule and resolved how alternates will fill in when primary members are absent.

Members settled on a monthly, mid‑month Thursday cadence and endorsed June 19 at 5:30 p.m. as the next meeting. Fernando Gabriel Moraga, the chief deputy city clerk, will draft a calendar of meeting dates through December and circulate it to members for review.

The committee also formalized how alternates will serve at the table when regular members are absent. After a motion to establish an order for alternates — described during the meeting as either flipping a coin the first time and then alternating thereafter — the chair called for a vote. The motion was moved by Thomas Sullivan; the group approved the procedure with a voice vote of “Aye.” The chair instructed staff to record the motion in the minutes and to reflect alternates’ rotation in future scheduling.

Members discussed logistics including meeting time (5:30 p.m.), the desirability of Thursday evenings to avoid conflicts with council preparation, and the practical need for alternates to attend meetings even when not voting so they remain up to date.

The committee agreed that staff will distribute a proposed calendar and that the next meeting will be held on June 19 at 5:30 p.m.
