Teresa Robichaud, the Terrebonne Parish Clerk of Court, announced at the April 30, 2025 council meeting that she will retire effective Nov. 30, 2025.
A statement read into the record attributed to Robichaud said, in part: “In as much as I'm honored with the privilege afforded me as your Clerk of Court for the past 13 years, I have decided to retire effective 11/30/2025. Unfortunately, it is for personal reasons that now require me to be away from the office more frequently. I believe it to be in the best interest of the staff and the public that I resign. Until then, I will continue to dedicate myself to performing my duties as your clerk of court.”
Following the announcement, the council adopted a resolution calling for a special election to fill the anticipated vacancy, citing La. R.S. 18:602(E)(2)(a). The motion to call the special election was moved by Council member Danny Babin, seconded by Council member Kim Chauvin, and recorded as 8–0 in favor.
Nut graf: The special-election resolution initiates the statutory process for replacing a constitutional or elected officeholder whose anticipated vacancy will occur during the term. The transcript and meeting record indicate the council will work with the parish elections office to set the election schedule and related steps under state law.
Ending: Robichaud said she will continue in the role through Nov. 30, 2025; the council accepted her statement and set the process in motion by calling the special election.
