Committee confirms Ana Karen Estrada to Commission on the Status of Women

The Committee on Human Rights and Stability approved the appointment of Ana Karen Estrada to the Commission on the Status of Women.

Ana Karen Estrada addressed the committee after the nomination was read, speaking about her personal background and community advocacy work.

Estrada described herself as a first-generation Spanish-speaking student who has worked in community organizing and voter engagement and said those experiences informed her interest in serving. "Mi currículo se organicé defensoría a incrementar el a mucha gente, y ayuda a mucha gente," she told members of the committee, describing both professional and personal experience she said would inform her service. Committee members praised her background and commitment to representing younger voices and immigrant communities.

Committee members asked about administrative steps needed before she assumes the role; a member noted Estrada had completed the required financial disclosure form. The committee then voted. "Todos a favor, se aprueba su nombramiento," the chair announced.

The appointee will join the Commission on the Status of Women; no implementation date or start date was stated on the record at the meeting.

The confirmation followed public comment and consent-item handling earlier in the agenda.
