The spokesperson also said the secretary-general condemned what were described in the briefing as Israeli strikes near the Presidential Palace in Damascus and called on Israel to respect Syria’s sovereignty, unity, territorial integrity and independence. The UN asked interim authorities in Damascus to investigate alleged violations transparently and openly, saying such steps are “imperative to support a credible, orderly, and inclusive political transition” in line with Security Council Resolution 2254.
The briefing did not provide new independent casualty totals or announce UN-led operational responses; it urged restraint and transparent investigations by local authorities and member states.
