Head Start staff report: no income guidelines for applications, year-round intake

Varna Thompson, representing Head Start program staff, told the council Head Start will accept applications year-round and "we no longer have income guidelines," which the program asked the council to help publicize.
Thompson said Head Start staff will take an upcoming furlough day on Friday but that about 10 Head Start staff plan to work through the summer to assist early Head Start staff who work year-round. She said the Tahlequah Head Start facilities are under active work and policy council members will be taken to inspect the site on Thursday.
When asked where to apply, Thompson said applications are available online and referenced "Cherokeenationwebsite.org" in the meeting. She told the council the program accepts applications every day until slots are filled on a first-come basis.
Thompson also noted openings for Head Start staff and asked the council to help spread the word about the program’s services, which include health screenings, nutrition and dental checks. The council did not take formal action on the Head Start report.
