Council approves ARC Commission selling local artwork and retaining proceeds

The Indianola City Council on May 15 agreed that the ARC Commission may sell roughly 30 pieces of artwork housed at the Regions Bank building and retain the proceeds to support the commission’s activities for fiscal year 2026.
Jacky (city staff) told the council she met with Bob Kling and Steve from A Okay Antiques, and that Steve purchased three pieces of artwork for $100 each. Jacky said most of the remaining pieces were by local or Iowa artists and that suggested sale prices ranged from $50 to $150. “He recommended that most of the other art is local artists or Iowa artists and that we just sell that, ourselves at the garage sale or whatever we end up doing there,” Jacky said.
Council members expressed support. A councilmember said, “Sounds great,” and the council indicated approval to proceed. The council has not yet allocated ARC Commission funding for FY26, and Jacky said proceeds from these sales would help the commission’s budget.
Ending Staff and the ARC Commission will manage the sale and retain proceeds for ARC activities; council approval to proceed was given during the meeting.
