Board adopts resolution of intent to annex future Justice Center parcel into Town of Minden

Douglas County adopted a resolution stating its intent to amend Minden's boundary to include the site of the planned Douglas County Justice Center at 1280 Buckeye Road, a step the county says is legally required so the Ninth Judicial District may hold court at the site.
The Douglas County Board of County Commissioners voted unanimously May 15 to adopt Resolution 2025-R-052, a statement of intent to annex the parcel at 1280 Buckeye Road (APN 1320-28-000-045) into the town of Minden. County attorneys said the annexation is a necessary legal step to permit the Ninth Judicial District Court to hold court in the new Justice Center.
Deputy District Attorney Zach Wadley told the board the district court must hold court in the county seat under Nevada law, so the Justice Center parcel needs to be within the Town of Minden. "As part of that project, the board needs to accomplish the annexation of the Justice Center parcel into the town of Minden," Wadley said. He described the resolution as the procedural start; if the board adopts it, staff will present the annexation plan to the Town of Minden and then return to the county board with an ordinance to complete the annexation.
County Manager Jennifer Davidson said the county has coordinated closely with the town and asked Minden to participate in the building's design review; she described a collaborative working relationship with Minden officials.
Commissioner Jeanne Gardner moved for adoption of Resolution 2025-R-052; Commissioner John Tolbert seconded. The motion passed unanimously.
