Centennial hires new curriculum and HR directors; honors teachers, staff and student leaders

The Centennial School Board meeting on May 14 included personnel announcements and multiple recognitions.
Superintendent James Owens introduced April Olson as the district’s incoming director of curriculum and student learning, effective July 1. Olson, who served as director of elementary teaching and learning and director of federal programs in Reynolds School District, brings nearly 29 years in education, including roles as an assistant principal and classroom teacher. Olson told the board she is “very excited to become part of that and to, you know, look forward to narrowing our focus and continuing to provide excellent service for the community.”
The board also announced Marin Miller will become the district’s director of human resources July 1. Miller is the principal at Centennial High School and described serving the district in a new role as an opportunity to continue supporting the community where he lives.
The meeting recognized Centennial Transition Center teacher Devin Kautsa for receiving the Excellent Teacher Award at the Oregon Statewide Transition Conference and for being nominated for a PGE Parks Champion Award. Director Wright highlighted Kautsa’s work in transition‑age programming and partnerships that support students’ independence, job skills and community participation.
Centennial presented its 2025 “Bridal C” awards to three employees nominated by colleagues: Erin Bueller, kindergarten teacher at Meadows Elementary (18 years at Meadows), Reynaldo (Ronaldo) Alexander, campus safety liaison at Oliver Middle School, and Annie Garcia, lead custodian at Butler Creek Elementary. Nominators cited caring, initiative and strong student relationships. Nominator remarks and recipients’ brief remarks were part of the public presentation.
Student leadership at Centennial High School was recognized: ASB led an OASC spring conference workshop and the district’s student council earned the Oregon Association of Student Councils Gold Council Award; student leaders described year‑long work that contributed to increased school spirit and expanded student engagement events.
The board and superintendent invited community members to congratulate the honorees and noted personnel transitions and recognitions will be incorporated into district communications.
