Members suggested a range of options, including tours of the Hanson Road satellite facility (bus charging and maintenance), the East Washington BRT station and crossing improvements, riding a bus along the North–South BRT route, signal control equipment at the municipal building, Sales Street shop facilities (where signs and meters are serviced), and pedestrian or bicycle infrastructure walks. Several members recommended bundling several site visits into a single trip to maximize the value of members’ time.
Commissioners stressed accessibility and safety perspectives during tours: Commissioner Denise Jess urged tours include accessible crossings and to experience features while walking with a cane or guide dog; Alder Okkovich suggested signal controls and transit signal priority demonstrations; Alder Pritchett asked that bus drivers be included. Staff said some facilities (e.g., Hanson Road) are easier to schedule and that small-group or separate tours can be offered for members who missed earlier tours.
Chair Anne Kovich asked staff to compile a list of possible tour options, timing and logistics and bring it back to the commission. Staff also noted the need to manage quorum and recording requirements for any meeting at which a majority of members attend.
No formal action or vote was taken; the commission directed staff to return with scheduling options and logistics.
