Commission approves agreements to implement North–South BRT on state and county highways

The Madison Transportation Commission on May 14 included on the consent agenda and approved legislation 87627 to enter into agreements with the City of Fitchburg, Dane County and the Wisconsin Department of Transportation to implement the North–South bus rapid transit (BRT) line on state and county highways.

The council member who moved the consent agenda described the item as an agreement package to support project implementation on state and county rights of way. The commission approved the consent agenda by unanimous consent; the consent vote covered item 3 (legislator 87627) and no members requested separate discussion for that item.

Commissioners and staff have discussed North–South BRT in other agenda items and in prior meetings; staff materials cited the project’s project development phase and a Federal Transit Administration recommendation for funding. The agreement authorizations on state and county highways are intended to allow the city to coordinate construction and operation where the BRT uses non‑city rights of way.

The item was placed on the consent agenda, moved by Alder Harrington McKinney and seconded by Bill Bremer; no members requested to remove the item and the chair declared the consent motion carried.
