George Co. School Dist. recognizes CTE Teamworks winners and Leadership Academy cohort

The George Co. School District recognized students from its career and technical education programs and honored the fifth cohort of the district’s Leadership Academy during a recent board meeting. District presenters said the programs emphasize hands-on skills and industry certifications.

District staff noted the system offers 11 different CTE programs and praised students’ performance in regional competitions. “These three guys and one other placed first place in Teamworks,” a staff member said, adding students are judged on following blueprints, safety and productivity. The staff member also said some CTE classes lead to national certifications and that “his kids are usually at 90 or a % of the pass money on that.”

Board presenters and staff asked the students to describe their projects and noted the program’s multiple technical elements — including electrical and framing work — that students must complete from blueprint to finished product. The district said the Teamworks competition proceeds through regional rounds before culminating in larger final events.

The board also honored the Leadership Academy’s fifth cohort. A presenter said the district has had “over 60 members of our school district complete the academy over the last 5 years,” and explained that the monthly sessions include directors and campus leaders who speak to participants about supporting schools and instructional leadership.

Presenters thanked teachers and staff who support the CTE and leadership programs, and said the district will continue recognizing student accomplishments at future meetings.
