Alvin ISD Education Foundation presents $529,599.52 donation, honored executive director for tornado relief work

The Alvin Independent School District on Wednesday received a $529,599.52 donation from the Alvin ISD Education Foundation, the foundation’s executive director told the board during a public presentation.

The donation “represents more than just dollars,” Brandy Growth, executive director of the Alvin ISD Education Foundation, said as she presented the foundation’s annual gift to the district.

The foundation described itself as a nonprofit organized in 1998 to support Alvin ISD. Growth told trustees the foundation raised record funds at its gala and increased participation at events after relocating the foundation’s annual turtle race to a more central location. She also said the foundation had success writing grant applications: “every single grant that we wrote this year, we were awarded,” Growth said.

Superintendent Nelson and trustees praised the foundation’s response after a tornado damaged Walt Disney Elementary. A trustee noted the rapid inflow of donations after the storm and credited Growth with organizing and funneling contributions through the foundation so staff and families could receive support quickly. The board presented Growth a certificate of recognition for coordinating the relief effort.

The foundation said the gift reflects fundraising, sponsors and volunteer efforts across the community. The foundation’s executive director said the money will continue to support district programs but did not specify line-item allocations during the presentation.

The board acknowledged the gift and thanked foundation volunteers. No formal board action was required to accept the presentation; the donation announcement was given as part of the superintendent’s reports and presentations.
