Road & Bridge reports equipment, training and maintenance work in March–April update

Road & Bridge Administrator Darren Fischel told commissioners the department sent 21 employees to training, received two new motor graders, completed tree trimming in several unincorporated towns, replaced culverts and performed graveling and grading in dozens of locations.
Saline County Road & Bridge provided a bimonthly update for March and April at the May 13 meeting.
Administrator Darren Fischel said the department sent 21 employees to three LTAP training courses covering gravel road maintenance, county budgeting and the Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices. The county took delivery of two John Deere motor graders previously approved by the board, Fischel said.
Staff reported tree trimming at about 20 locations including the unincorporated towns of Fallen, Hedville and Glendale; replacement of about 10 culverts; and response to a minor flooding event in the northwest portion of the county after two to three inches of rain, which required ditch cleaning at roughly 25–30 locations. Fischel said crews had completed graveling at approximately 134 sites and extensive grading work with motor graders during the reporting period.
The department is rolling out spring DuraPATCH operations to address potholes, plans several culvert replacements and expects to begin a few road rebuild projects in coming months. Fischel said the new DuraPATCH machine had not yet been received but was expected within two to three weeks.
Commissioners asked about machine delivery and expressed appreciation for outreach and training investments. No action items were requested of the board during the presentation.
