Saline County adopts updated Region 7 hazard mitigation plan to retain grant eligibility

The Saline County Board of Commissioners on May 13 approved an update to the 2025 Region 7 Hazard Mitigation Plan.
Michelle Wise, Saline County emergency management director, presented the five‑year update, saying the plan consolidates and re‑ranks hazards but leaves the county susceptible to the same primary threats as in prior cycles. "By doing so, it opens the county up to public assistance and grant opportunities based on mitigation actions," Wise told commissioners.
Wise said the update required no substantive policy changes by the commission; adoption is primarily procedural to maintain eligibility for federal and state mitigation funding. Commissioners asked about review frequency; Wise confirmed the plan is reviewed every five years.
A commissioner moved to adopt the plan (filed as FAA 2025‑64); the motion carried by voice vote. No additional county commitments or immediate mitigation projects were approved during the meeting, though Wise noted that adoption enables pursuit of grants tied to mitigation actions specified in the plan.
The county will transmit its adopted plan as required to remain eligible for public‑assistance programs and other hazard mitigation funding tied to officially adopted mitigation plans.
