Saline County proclaims May 2025 as Mental Health Month

The Saline County Board of Commissioners on May 13 unanimously adopted a proclamation declaring May 2025 as Mental Health Month.
The proclamation was read by Deanna Ryals, Martin Youth Center coordinator, who described local services and outreach provided by Central Kansas Mental Health Center. "Whereas access to high quality crisis services is essential to the well-being of our region, CKMHC remains committed to working with local leaders, organizations, and agencies to enhance and sustain these vital services," Ryals said while reading the document.
The proclamation text cited state and national mental health statistics, local barriers to care and the benefits of mental wellness. Ryals said the center has been running mental health first aid classes, attending community events including a county health department block party and a senior health fair, and conducting outreach to increase awareness of available services.
Commissioners asked about planned activities; Ryals and a marketing staff member described hot‑dog outreach, first aid classes and appearances planned at senior and youth events during the month. The commission voted to adopt the proclamation by voice vote.
The board presented Ryals with the signed proclamation following the vote. No requests for follow-up action or budget appropriations were made at the meeting.
Looking ahead, the county will continue to coordinate with CKMHC and other community partners on outreach and crisis response efforts noted in the proclamation.
